NORTH OMAHA VILLAGE ZONE ACTION PLAN
Community Visioning and Planning

The Empowerment Network, Alliance Building Communities, City of Omaha, Omaha Housing Authority, North Omaha Development Project, and Nebraska Investment Finance Authority invite you to participate in a series of community vision and planning sessions. Our goal: work with the community, stakeholders, and partners to identify and implement specific projects in these targeted areas.

TARGETED AREAS OF FOCUS:

What are your thoughts, ideas, and vision for 24th and Lake?

What are your thoughts, ideas, and vision for the 24th Street Corridor?

What are your thoughts, ideas, and vision for the 30th and Parker area?
(former location of Pleasant View Housing)

What are your thoughts, ideas, and vision for the Adams Park,
Malcolm X Site, and Miami Heights area?

THE NORTH OMAHA VILLAGE ZONE:
All of the partners will continue to do work and projects in other areas of North Omaha.  The Village Zone will be an areas of intense focus including housing, jobs, business development, violence prevention, education and youth development, sustainability, arts and culture, and other comprehensive, collaborative projects.  The plan is to create a process that can be successfully implemented in other village areas throughout North Omaha and other parts of the city.  The efforts are starting in what has long been considered the core of North Omaha.  This is the continuation of over two years of work in the Empowerment Network's Village Strategy area.

GOALS:

Comprehensive, Coordinated Plan for Redevelopment
Connected, Sustainable, Thriving Community
Focus on Targeted Areas with the Greatest Potential
Identify “Iconic” Catalyst Projects
Develop Real, Tangible Proposals
Create Detailed Budgets and Implementation Plans
Establish Partners and Raise Funds
Implement Sustainable Projects, Models and Plans

ACTION PLAN:

Building on the work of the North Omaha Development Project, Empowerment Network’s Village Strategy, and City of Omaha Development Plans, we’re working together to take the next steps towards Rebuilding North Omaha…Block by Block.

Come participate in an interactive meeting with our consultants H3 Studio and Schemmer Associates. Be a part of the rebuilding of this historic part of North Omaha.

This is not a study.  This is an action plan for implementation.  The purpose is to take the North Omaha Development study and bring it down to a block by block plan starting with areas with the highest potential for development.  Specific projects will be identified and implemented.

TIMELINE:

The planning will happen in phases.  Initial meetings with community stakeholders have been held to outline the process.  By the end of March, consultants will have concepts for the community to review in two of the target areas.  By the end of May, based on community, stakeholder, and the input of partners, a number of specific proposals will be developed and prepared for funding support.

Additional community planning sessions will be announced and held during April and May.  Your participation and input are incredibly vital.
